On April 3rd 1945, The Nancy Hart Golf Course located at the site of the current Hartwell Golf Club, Inc. was purchased for the sum of $2350.00 dollars by American Legion Post 109 of Hartwell, Georgia. The course at that time consisted of nine holes with several greens serving as duplicate holes from different tee boxes. Some of the greens were of sand rather than grass. The American Legion ran the course for several years and in 1969 a number of the members of the American Legion offered to lease the golf course and all facilities to the Hartwell Golf Club Inc. With a thirty-five year lease in hand the non-profit corporation Hartwell Golf Club Inc. was founded. A resent lease renewal extends the lease for an additional forty years. Over the years the course has seen many improvements including expansion to eighteen holes, construction of facilities, three ponds and continuous course modifications.

Today the course remains the home of the Hartwell Golf Club Inc. and American Legion Post 109.
